Argent Wealth was an independent financial advisory firm that was involved in the British Steel Pension Scheme. It was established by David Hardman and his father, John Thomas Hardman, in 2009. They promoted transfers and gave unsuitable advice when it wasn’t in the client’s best interest. In 2017, 8,000 British Steel workers were advised to transfer out of their defined benefit pension into a defined contribution pension, also known as a Personal Pension Plan or a Self–Invested Personal Pension (SIPP).

Some of the benefits that have been forfeited because of the advice from Argent Wealth are guaranteed pension, guaranteed spousal death benefits, and guaranteed lump sum payment.

Argent Wealth had a responsibility to make sure that workers understood what benefits they were losing and what this meant for them and their retirement.
